An Observation
It's funny how a wheelchair can inspire so many smiles. We've been braving the Houston heat to get my mom out of the house and our days have been brilliantly warm in a different kind of way. Smiles in every direction- perhaps it's a Texas thing, but I'm convinced it has something to do with a vibrant woman and her mode of transportation.
I can't believe we are approaching October and STILL there's always an afternoon session in the pool. This heat. This heat.
I have no interesting pictures to post as of late, but I will be heading to Austin to play with my favorite cousin Amanda...I'm sure there will be details to post.
Love goes out to my baby sister Natalie who has just embarked on her journey abroad. Valencia in Spain promises to be a wonderful home to her for the next year. I'm thinking about you "babs" and I know you will grasp every moment with enthusiasm.
Okay, back to lunch...
a thought...
It is possible to divide every kind of happiness and suffering into two main categories: mental and physical. Of the two, it is the mind that exerts the greatest influence on most of us. Unless we are either gravely ill or deprived of basic necessities, our physical condition plays a secondary role in life. If the body is content, we virtually ignore it. The mind, however, registers every event, no matter how small. Hence we should devote our most serious efforts to bringing about mental peace rather than physical comfort.
-From the Compassionate Life, Dalai Lama
This quote rings true with me today, as I am feeling less happy than usual...despite the sun, my mom's radiant smile, and my dad's contagious wit.
Jon Stewart is my hero...
question/pregunta
Non- cash prize to anyone that can tell me what "haraganear" means in Spanish.
I arrived at my parents' house today after a month-long adventure touring the east coast with Aly, Rachel and Aurelien. It was fun and I think I came back a little less pasty white than normally. It feels weird to be living out of a closet rather than a multi-color woven bag, begone damn wrinkles!!
Soon I will be bestowed a "stack" (is that an understatement Abe, Mich, Heather?) of bar prep books and I will begin my fall adventure of studying for the hair-loss-inducing exam in February. Perhaps I should change the name of my blog, but I don't think I will. The current name is so much more exciting than
Kelly's adventures with Torts, Property, Oil & Gas, Business Associations, Secured Credit and more!
Random pictures to come...
Aly called it the "torturous walk"
A Saturday walk in the woods is supposed to be a calming experience. This is definitely not what was in store for us. A huge snake stealthily hidden in the brush, spiders the size of open palms and hard-to-decipher trail markings were what we encountered. We still had fun and plenty of comic relief when we stopped off at a grocery store, Publix, which Aly informed us was rated one of the best places for young singles to meet. The girls were dressed for the club and I even saw a guy laying in the beer cooler. Grant it, the stock was extremely low due to the upcoming FSU game and long weekend, but please!
I didn't know it was an American historian that discovered Machu Picchu (in Peru)...just a random fact for all of you jeopardy hopefuls. (The year was 1911).
Finally something beautiful
At least the butterflies made this walk pleasurable...
Spiderzzz
Not one, but two spiders in this picture...
Serpent in the grass
I don't know if you can see this big grey snake...but he's there. He was hiding in the grass and Aure got close enough to snap a shot. Its diameter was approximately the size of a Pringles can.
Still stranded in Florida
Big news from the California senate today...check washingtonpost.com for the details. I took my first step class in almost a year last night, back for an encore tonight. Aly has been such a great hostess- sharing her kitchen, her bedroom, her smile!!
Saludos to my baby sister who should be in her new home, Spain, the next time she reads this.
Bebel Gilberto's self-titled, second album was remixed a few months ago and is quite a treat. Listening to Amp Fidler as we speak, sultry soul for a hot Florida day...
Congratulations to Joey Neugart and his beautiful bride Lucy who are getting married this weekend!
