Stop and smell the Rosemary...
The first post of 2008 comes at a time of change. I have moved back to Austin (finally). It didn't feel real until I renewed my library card yesterday :) It's good to be back in the land of Bob Schneider and Mexican martinis, but I will certainly miss my tennis beat downs with Daniel.
Tomorrow I will begin a new project at
Urban Roots. Yesterday we interviewed our farm interns and we had a great turn out. The plan is to grow 10,000- lbs of produce by July. If you live in Austin keep your eyes and ears open. Here we come...
Ugly Christmas Sweater Party
The girls in south Austin decided to host an ugly Christmas sweater party. Aly made homeade egg nog, which I'm sure the lactose intolerant were regretting the next day. There were some amazingly hilarious sweaters. For example- our friend Lulu (who rode his bike in the cold rain) strapped a battery pack to his hip and donned a lit up sweater all night. Amanda wanted to award the person with the best/worst sweater, and Whitney Wolf won the grand prize: a tin of popcorn. Whitney's sweater was a middrift with a
codpiece full of candy canes attached to the front. Too funny...

And the winner is...

Yes, those are cotton balls on Tress's sweater.

Austin makes me this happy...

April and Michelle kickin' it on the couch...nice pearls Ape!

I love babycita/babs/natalie.

The ultimate "regift." Someone brought this to the party- and the wine was pink!

When can I break out my winter boots?!
The last time I posted we were just unfolding October. Now we're only days away from Thanksgiving! What's crazy is that I'm outside in my bathing suit as I post this. I used to lament the lack of snow and seasons in Texas. Then I saw the most beautiful thing. I was looking out of the window and all of a sudden wonderfully colored leaves began to fall from the trees and it was as if they were dancing in the air. My immediate thought? Texas snow.

Please ignore the double stick tape...

I just wanna camp!
I think we had all been craving a bit of camping action. We went to a place about 30 minutes outside of Austin, called Muleshoe. At first we were a bit worried because we had arrived late and were scrambling to find an open spot. It quickly became apparent that the park was full and the sun was quickly dropping to the west. After much deliberation we decided we would make our own spot. We created a fire pit and pitched the tents. Natalie and Tim arrived while we were playing horseshoes. There is no one, and I mean no one, better to go camping with than Tim. He brought his telescope and showed us Jupiter and the moon. He also brought fun party favors: glow-in-the-dark bracelets. My friend Ryan was the chef. He created foil packs with salmon, veggies and a wonderful pesto which he grilled on the fire. Amanda was the maestro of the smores. She helped everyone load the clothing hangers with marshmallows and was ready when it was time to choclify and grahamify.

Aly took this picture. I think the image says it all...

Tim bought everyone glow-in-the-dark bracelets, I guess so we could find each other in the woods??? It was a great idea, we had a lot of fun...especially Amanda!

The Cathedral of Junk
It was a humid autumn day when Natalie decided to throw a party at the
Cathedral of Junk. Who wouldn't want to get crazy in a backyard, in south Austin, that housed an enormous structure made entirely of random objects? We had a lot of fun- thanks Nat for making it happen!

Natalie and tall Paul with Vince, the creator of the "Cathedral of Junk."

Abraham George made an appearance that weekend, along with Scott S. It was a mini law school reunion of sorts.

Natalie's friend tall Paul helped us find the dj.

Vermont and Canada Here We Come (or Where we Went)!
Aly planned a girls' trip to Canada recently. The trip started in Burlington, Vermont where we visited
Shelburne Farms and enjoyed the gorgeous fall scenery. We drove to Montreal for some real fun. Aly's French reemerged, unscathed. On the way back to Vermont we stopped at a local cheese farm (Nat- did we decide on "cheesery"??)

We went to
Shelburne Farms, in Burlington, before heading on to Montreal.

Our pretty trip planner...

Our last night in Burlington, Vermont we had a happy picnic in our hotel room. Almost everything was local- Vermont apples, cheese and sausage. If you look closely you can see our napkins from the local Dunkin' Donuts. (Or Dunkos as Abe would say).

Here's a shot of babs after a serious trip to H&M!

One of Montreal's famous bagel shops. (We actually hit up two places that morning for some yummy quality comparing).

Cuter than apple pie...

A Vermont cheese farm that we found en route from Montreal to Burlington.
Yoga bashing...
I'd challenge the person who wrote
this article, or anyone who has his/her doubts about hot yoga, to try it.
I'll get to the Canada post, but first...

Clearing the way for a fall garden...

Aly sure knows how to get things done!!! We woke up early to pull weeds in the community garden. I can't wait to see what she decides to grow this season...
